Rochester, NY-based Intercon Associates Inc. announces that it has signed an agreement with Lake Country Systems Inc. (LCS) of Hartford, WI to make Intercon Prescription Warning Label software available to LCS pharmacy customers using the Sure Scrip® pharmacy management application. This technology allows pharmacies to print prescription warning labels and barcodes using software instead of current industry standard printer flash memory cards.
Today, most pharmacies print warning labels and barcodes by utilizing custom programmed, printer resident, flash memory SIMM, DIMM, or Daughter cards. The downside of this technology is that these devices are printer specific, often requiring different memory cards when pharmacies purchase new printers. Also, updating the card with the latest warning label messages is time consuming, costly and can be technically challenging. This may result in pharmacies not updating over time, which translates into patients not receiving the best warning information for the medication they are receiving.
The solution is Intercon’s E-Script Warning Label Software. E-Script Software is integrated into the Sure Scrip® application and delivers accurate and up-to-date prescription warning labels. Because it is software, warning label updates are easily managed to include newly published warning label messages as this information become available. Frequent file updates ensure that complete and accurate warning labels, barcodes and other custom images are available to the pharmacy.
Intercon and LCS worked closely to integrate E-Script Software into Sure Scrip® over the past couple months. "The time is right," says Mark Basta, Intercon’s Rx Division President. "Not only is the industry ready for this solution, due to the accumulating problems and cost associated with using memory cards, but additional printer manufacturers are entering the retail pharmacy market with laser and thermal printing technology solutions. This will intensify the logistical problems already experienced by pharmacy IT departments in supporting prescription warning labels."
Douglas Burghardt, President of Lake Country Systems states: "LCS is impressed with Intercon’s position in this facet of the retail pharmacy marketplace along with their expertise in software and printing technologies. We look forward to assisting our customers in implementing Intercon’s E-Script Software solution."
According to Mr. Basta, "I am confident we have the best product due to our understanding of this technology, its requirements and years of experience in this industry. Intercon was the first company to develop electronic warning labels in 1992. When you combine this knowledge and experience with our in-house programming and support staff the result is a product that solves problems and adds value."
